DESENSITIZATION

DESENSITISATION THEORY :

TRIGGER WARNING: If you are easily triggered this is not the article for you, l have other articles on various topics you can learn from. THANKS!

Complacency is the last hurdle standing between ignorance and the human race. The subliminal over firmiliarization to violence, death, liberalism and over sexualization in media is creating subconscious immunity to sensitive information, thus causing inaction.

Definition

Desensitisation is the act of repeated exposure to sensitive information with the aim of making the audience insensitive or callous. It is to extinguish an emotional response such as fear, concern or empathy to stimuli that formerly induced it. Constant exposure to violence and over sexualization decreases stimuli. That is why you discover that over the years there has been a significant drop in concern, empathy, sympathy about aggressive acts perpetrated by others. The worst part is this is human to human interaction and it triggers apathy. DEsensitisation DEhumanises society.

Violence is now being glamorized. Last week l saw a SQUID GAME themed party. On Amazon people are buying Squid Game tracksuits for fashion. Squid Game, the series was supposed to educate society on the secret world of the rich societies and the inhumane and degrading treatment of human beings, all because of their social status. This was supposed to spike protests, investigations, new organisational fronts to extinguish these cold-blooded systems. However, the audience found murder entertaining because they are asking for PART 2!! For what you might ask? To watch people kill each other, to be thrilled by the portrayal of the predicament of the poor and celebrating the perpetrators of such an evil systems.

The reason why violence and ‘sex sells’ is because that’s what the consumers want to consume. The question is why. Why and When did the world reach a point where people enjoy watching murder, violence , suffering. Its because that is what media feeds people with everyday. It is a programming. 1820 movies released in the time frame of 1993 to 2005 had increasing violence in movies all rated PG and PG 13. Meaning children could watch. Do you see the video games, cartoons, comic books children are consuming? Its full of violence, fighting, anger, revenge, insanity, nudity, sexuality etc. So from a young age, children are being exposed to heavy information so that when they grow up, they become indifferent.

Last year, 2020 many people of color were murdered unjustly in the USA. In my view, media keeps using propaganda to desensitise the audience on how barbaric it is to mistreat and take someone’s life just because of their skin color….what do you think?

I have nothing personal against Halloween, but as a Christian l do not and l cannot celebrate Halloween. If you study the background, it is literally celebrating witchcraft and dark magic. Now it is being glamorized. You will see celebrities dressed in horror film characters inspired outfits. I saw a picture of the most followed woman on Instagram which she posted on Halloween. She wasn’t dressed in the least, and she portrayed murder as she was covered in ‘blood’. Its obviously fictional, but why do we find this normal or even entertaining because she had over 4 million likes. Halloween celebrates all the dark things in this life, yet its more celebrated than Unity Day, Independence Day and even Easter Holiday.

Glamorization of the wrong things doesn’t make them right. Regardless of beautiful women being used to characterise violence in movies is also a desensitisation tactic. They can even add a love storyline, for example Bonnie and Clyde. Couples want to be them but they were murder convicts on the run. Its now time to talk about the things that our subconscious minds misses….Its time for an awakening.

Society needs to be more sensitive about the violent occurrences, not only that but they need to stop being exhilarated by such and start taking up action against the DESENSITISATION in media. The end goal is to perpetrate violence within communities, but since they have been desensitised they will see it as somewhat is normal resulting to societal apathy and zero compassion. Like a traffic jam, they will learn to live with it. The young people online will even go as far as creating memes and tiktok videos, to laugh it off…..

Desensitisation is also used for medicinal purposes to treat phobias such as fear or other mental health disorders. According to Verywellmind blog post, desensitisation treatment may start with imagination and end with exposure to remove the fear and desensitizing you to the situation, so you don’t panic when you experience it in real life. This same concept is being used subliminally to desensitise people from violence and so many other things.

To avoid this and to protect yourself, avoid watching news frequently. You can read headlines and watch few important topics but don’t over expose your mind to the unending negative news always showing. Become more aware and process each information that comes to you with empathy, especially if it has to do with other people’s painful circumstances.

Most importantly, STAY SAFE ❤
